Cara, Courtney and Rui are a huge part of the leadership team.  They are training as
leaders in hopes that they will be a significant part of the halaus future.  They will gain
great respect for the meaning of "teacher" as they experience the role of a leader in action.
Cara is a graduate of Roosevelt High School Class of 2007.  Courtney is a Junior at
Kaimuki High School.  Rui is the newest member to our leadership team and a Sophomore
at Punahou School.  These girls as well as our Na Alaka'i are all volunteers of the halau
giving their time on a weekly basis.  We salute all of our Na Kumu Kokua for their time,
interest and passion for the Hula.
The halau's success and accomplishments are due to people who are willing
to take the time to stop, teach and learn with the students.  It is through the
Kumu Kokua (teachers helpers) and Na Alaka'i (leaders) that understanding,
clarification, and special attention are extended to the students.  Volunteering
is very important for the longevity of the Halau.  It is through their love,
support, and interactions that we are able to continue the Halau for sixteen
years.
She since returned to hula after a long absence and has been with the halau
for two years and still counting.  Waynette and Kumu Stanette has been
friends and co workers when they first met in 1982 on board the Ali'i Kai
Catamaran and the Hula Kai.  Waynette was able to learn under Stanette's
Kumu Hula Darrell Lupenui while employed on the Ali'i Kai Catamaran.
Waynette is a wife and mother of two wonderful children.  Her faith in the
Lord is powerful and her spirit so giving  The year 2007-2008 will take
Waynette on a new journey.  She is now in training to become a powerful
leader so that the halau legacy will continue to extend its teachings to the
communities of Pearl City and Waianae.
